Thinking - Pondering - What a concept
Here are some responses I got from a few buddies who are in IT on my ponderings around the recent financial meltdown and the impact and potential flow on effects of that on budgets, projects, demand, competition, vulnerability over next 6 to 12 months

Heres an emailerview with Gary Maggio on the impact of the recent global financial crises
Hi Gary
p.s. I see you are enjoying your flow on's from your Date With Destiny in 2007. Geeze getting between the big guy and his missus must be no mean feat. LOL

HERE is Gary's message for those who may fear they would be a little challenged finding a way to get back up should the worst befall them.
Hi Gary
Gary: Hello Buddy! Thanks for your thoughts to my ponderings around the potential flow on effects of the recent global financial incident.
Rob: Are Budgets getting cut back sharply?
Gary: To some degree but not at a level that other sectors are. This is because IT and the rapid changes in hardware and software smart companies budget IT as one of their first line items. At least this is my experience
Rob: Are existing projects being put on hold? new projects shelved?
Gary: Not in my experience being in the NYC fast track. Smart Directors and
CIO's know that IT must move forward in order to stay current and or above
the competion. New Technology often means faster, smarter and ROI.
Rob: Is the demand for IT falling?
Gary: Definitely Not. Check out.......www. dice.com
Rob: Is the competition hotting up?
Gary: Definitely. Right now if you are an IT professional you must have the most
current certifications respective to your field. If not, you will not be considered.
The competition is fierce.
Rob: How is this being felt? In hourly rate?
Gary: Hourly rates have dropped in NYC about 10%. Historically a cracker jack IT
professional who walks his talk can write his ticket.
Rob: Some contractors say they will just go permanent...
BUT is this a false sense of security?
Gary: In my opinion it is foolish to ever consider being a W2 employee. Of
course that is from the position of wanting to control your own destiny
and keep most of what you earn.
Gary: Cheers Rob!!!!
